Who is responsible?

Stem is made by nealvdv: Neal Van de Velde, company and VAT number BE 0671.938.794. He is responsible for processing your data in Stem. A question about your data? Write to contact@nealvdv.be.

What we do not do

No account, no tracking, no ads, no third-party analytics. We never ask for your political views, and what you choose in the exercises stays on your own device.

Who helps us?

Stem runs on Vercel, Inc. Like any web server, Vercel sees your IP address and what your browser says about itself, such as the browser type, and keeps technical logs for a short time to keep the service safe and working. We don't use that data to follow you. The fonts come from our own server, not from Google.

What stays on your device

A few choices are kept in your browser: light or dark, your reading comfort and which topics you can do ("You can do this"). That data never leaves your device. You delete it by clearing the site data in your browser.

Cookies

Stem sets no third-party cookies, no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. There is one functional cookie: NEXT_LOCALE remembers the language you choose yourself, when it differs from your browser's language. The cookie disappears when you close your browser. A necessary cookie like this needs no consent.

If you link Stem to your Kaft account, Stem also sets the cookie kaft_plus. It holds an access key signed by Kaft: which apps are open to you and until when. Your name and e-mail address are not in it. Only the server of Stem can read the cookie. It expires when your subscription ends, or when you clear this site's data in your browser. A second cookie, kaft_plus_on, holds only a 1: it tells the page it may ask the server for the Kaft Plus topics. It expires together with the first.

Kaft Plus

You manage Kaft Plus on Kaft, not in Stem: Stem only receives the access key above. On Kaft we keep your e-mail address for your account and, for a subscription, the plan, the period, the payment status and the billing details you enter. We keep invoices as long as accounting and VAT law requires. Signing in works with a code by e-mail, without a password; those e-mails go out through Resend. Payments go through Mollie B.V. in Amsterdam: Mollie receives the amount and what you enter on Mollie's payment page, and tells Kaft whether the payment went through. We never see your bank or card details. Kaft's privacy statement explains it all.

Children and young people

Stem asks nobody for personal data, children included. A Kaft account and a subscription are taken out by a parent, a guardian or a school. If you are under 13, Belgian law doesn't let you consent to a service like this yourself: leave it to a parent.

Outside Europe

Vercel is an American company, so your data can end up in the United States. Vercel offers the safeguards European privacy law asks for: the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

For Kaft Plus the same goes for Resend, which sends the sign-in e-mails, and Neon, Kaft's database.

Your rights

You can always ask what data we have about you, and have it corrected or erased. You can also ask us to stop using it for a while, object to what we do with it, or get it in a file you can use elsewhere. If you gave consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Write to contact@nealvdv.be. We answer within a month.

A complaint

Not happy with how we handle your data? Do let us know. You can also always lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (DPA), Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels, www.dataprotectionauthority.be.
